Biographical Information[edit]

Chul-in Shin has pitched in the KBO and for the South Korean national team.

He was a 10th-round pick of the Hyundai Unicorns in the 2000 KBO draft. [1] He was 6-4 with a save and a 4.28 ERA as a rookie, fanning 92 in 75 2/3 IP. In 2001, he went 6-6 with 13 saves and a 2.80 ERA in 57 games. He was 7th in the league in both saves and pitching appearances. He allowed two runs in six innings for South Korea in the 2001 Baseball World Cup. [2]

The right-hander's ERA rose to 4.53 in the 2002 KBO and he was 2-1 with a save. He went 3-2 with a save and a 3.07 ERA in 52 games in 2003, striking out 88 but walking 40 in 76 1/3 IP. The team won the 2003 Korean Series. He was 1-0 with a 2.48 ERA in 29 outings in 2004 but was 2-1 when they won the 2004 Korean Series, including winning the finale. [3] He only pitched 1 1/3 innings (scoreless) in 2005, presumably being injured. He had his last big season in 2006, going 2-3 with a save and a 2.22 ERA in 65 appearances, striking out 85 in 77 IP. He was 4th in games pitched and 6th with 17 holds. [4]

Shin was on South Korea's team that won Bronze in the 2006 Asian Games. [5] He then completed his mandatory military service. When he returned, Hyundai had become the Woori Heroes. He had a 3.60 ERA in 13 games in 2008 and struggled in 2009 (2-4, 6 Sv, 6.42; he still fanned 50 in 47 2/3 IP) to end his playing career. He had gone 22-20 with 23 saves and a 3.55 ERA in 335 KBO games, striking out 499 in 469 innings.

He later coached at Shinil High School and Cheongwon High School. [6]
