Biographical Information

Chris Marrero was selected by the Washington Nationals in the first round of the 2006 amateur draft (15th overall). He was signed by scout Tony Arango and made his pro debut that year with the GCL Nationals, where he hit .309 with 16 RBIs in 22 games. In 2007, he played for the Hagerstown Suns and Potomac Nationals, hitting a combined .275 with 23 home runs and 88 RBI in 477 at-bats. He was back with Potomac Nationals in 2008 and hit .250 with 11 homers and 38 RBI in 70 games before suffering a season-ending broken leg in June.

Marrero split 2009 between Potomac and the Harrisburg Senators, hitting .284 with 27 doubles, 17 home runs, and 76 RBI between the two clubs. With Harrisburg again in 2010, he hit .294 with 18 homers and 82 RBI. He started 2011 with the Syracuse Chiefs, hitting .300 with 14 home runs in 127 games before being called up by Washington in late August. He made his big league debut on August 27th against the Cincinnati Reds, starting at first base and getting his first hit in the majors.

Playing winter ball for the Licey Tigers in November of 2011, Marrero suffered a torn left hamstring. The injury was quite serious, forcing him to miss spring training and the start of the 2012 season.

He hit his first and only major league homer on April 14, 2017 as a member of the San Francisco Giants against Tyler Anderson of the Colorado Rockies.

He is the brother of Christian Marrero, a cousin of Deven Marrero and all three are Eli Marrero's nephews.
