Biographical Information[edit]

Christian Marrero was drafted by the Chicago White Sox as a draft-and-follow pick in the 22nd round of the 2005 amateur draft. After another year of junior college, he was signed by scout Jose Ortega and made his pro debut in 2006. Marrero enjoyed a long minor league career with various organizations. He reached AAA for the first time in 2012, but was never called up to the major leagues. His final season in 2017 was rather adventurous. He started the season playing in Mexico with the Tigres de Quintana Roo and then joined the Somerset Patriots in the independent Atlantic League. Marrero spent the final weeks of the season in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, first with the AA Reading Fightin Phils and then with the AAA Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Over the course of his 12 minor league seasons, Marrero hit .277/.371/.439 while appearing in 1,140 games, mostly at first base and the outfield.

Following his retirement, Marrero stayed with the Phillies organization to begin his coaching career. Marrero was hitting coach of the Williamsport Crosscutters in 2018 and Lakewood BlueClaws in 2019. He was scheduled to return to the BlueClaws in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. He joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2021 as their assistant hitting coach. He remained in this position through the 2024 season.

Christian is Chris Marrero's brother and a cousin of Deven Marrero. All three are nephews of Eli Marrero.
