Biographical Information[edit]
A former football player at the University of Pittsburgh, Chris Jelic is one of at least three NCAA Division I-A punters to play Major League Baseball. Andy Tracy and Darin Erstad are among the others.
Jelic was drafted in 1985 as the premier Kansas City Royals catching prospect, only to be overshadowed by their 4th round pick, Mike Macfarlane. Chris Jelic finished his career with one major league hit - a solo home run. It came in the final at-bat of his career, against pitcher Doug Bair, who was also pitching the final game of his career.
