Biographical Information[edit]

Bennett was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 7th round of the 1986 Amateur Draft, and he had a 1-2 record with a 4.40 ERA for the Spartanburg Phillies while recording a 3.54 ERA in 4 games with the Clearwater Phillies. After missing the 1987 season, he had a 1.73 ERA in 20 appearances for the West Palm Beach Expos of the Montreal Expos system. Bennett lowered his ERA to 0.91 in 18 games in West Palm Beach in 1989, and he also had a 4-2 record with a 2.40 ERA with the AA Jacksonville Expos. He was 3-4 with a 3.24 ERA in Jacksonville in 1990, and he reached AAA while recording a 4.89 ERA in 23 games for the Indianapolis Indians. In 1993, Bennett was 5-6 with a 3.16 ERA for the Harrisburg Senators, but he had a 7.94 ERA in 6 games with the Indians.

After missing the 1992 season, Bennett only pitched 3 games for the Indians in 1993. He then signed with the Brother Elephants of the CPBL, and he pitched well in Taiwan. On his debut on March 20, he shut out the Mercuries Tigers and he was the first foreign player to do that in CPBL history.[1] Bennett was 12-6 with a 2.56 ERA in 1994, ranking 2nd in ERA (.44 behind Jose Nunez), 8th in strikeouts (103 behind Will Flynt) and 5th in wins (10 behind Yi-Hsin Chen). He was also selected into the 1994 CPBL All-Star Game, and he pitched 3 shutout innings. Bennett then signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he struggled and had a 6.67 ERA in 18 games for the Carolina Mudcats. The Pirates released him in June, and he returned to Taiwan.

Bennett was 4-5 with a 3.04 ERA for the Brothers in 1995, then he had a 5-3 record with a 3.84 ERA in 1996.[2] He signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 1997, and he split his time between AA and AAA. He had a 3.54 ERA in 25 relief outings for the Rochester Red Wings, and he recorded a 2.89 ERA in 10 games with the Bowie Baysox. Bennett then went to the Bend Bandits of the Western League, but he only pitched a game with 7 runs allowed in 5 innings. He left the Bandits after the 1998 season, and his professional career ended.

Overall, Bennett was 24-29 with a 3.49 ERA in 244 games in the minors and 21-24 with a 2.94 ERA in 53 games in the CPBL.
