Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Chris Baker was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 29th round of the 1999 amateur draft. He made his pro debut that summer, going 2-5 with a 5.74 ERA and 64 strikeouts between the Medicine Hat Blue Jays and the St. Catharines Stompers. He was with the Dunedin Blue Jays in 2000, going 9-5, with a 3.20 ERA, 5 saves, and 85 strikeouts in 41 games. With the Tennessee Smokies the following year, he went 15-6 with a 3.37 ERA and 121 strikeouts and was named Southern League Most Outstanding Pitcher.

Baker reached the AAA level in 2002 with the Syracuse SkyChiefs, for whom he was 4-7 with a 4.33 ERA. He spent the majority of 2003 back at AA with the New Haven Ravens, where he was 9-6 with a 3.90 ERA in 25 starts, and had a brief stint back with Syracuse, where he went 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA in a pair of starts. After starting the next year at Syracuse and going 0-11 with a 6.75 ERA in 18 appearances, he was sent to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and went 5-1 with a 3.09 ERA in 11 starts. He had a fourth stint at Syracuse in 2005 and posted an 8-7 record to go along with a 5.30 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 31 outings.
