Biographical Information

First baseman Chip Cannon played in the minor leagues from 2004 to 2009, reaching Triple-A for the first and only time in 2008.

Prior to playing professionally, Cannon had a stellar career at The Citadel. In 2001, he hit .333/.421/.515 in 33 at-bats and the following season, he hit .280/.395/.458 with nine home runs and 39 RBI in 57 games. He played 57 games the next year as well, hitting .337/.459/.615 with 12 home runs and 60 RBI. He then hit .358/.514/.681 with 17 home runs and 66 RBI in 67 games in 2004.

He was a Southern Conference All-Star in 2003 and 2004.

He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the eighth round of the 2004 amateur draft and began his career that season. In 62 games for the Auburn Doubledays, he hit .271/.338/.495 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI in 62 games.

In 2005, he hit .289/.359/.582 with 32 home runs and 98 RBI in 122 games split between the Lansing Lugnuts, Dunedin Blue Jays and New Hampshire Fisher Cats. With the Fisher Cats in 2006, he slugged 27 home runs and had 69 RBI in 135 games, leading the Eastern League in dingers, while hitting .248/.335/.476. He also struck out 158 times, tying Brad Snyder for the league lead in that category. He was the Arizona Fall League MVP in 2006.

He hit .231/.343/.343 with five home runs and 30 RBI in 80 games for the Syracuse Chiefs in 2008 and in 2009, for the Montgomery Biscuits of the Tampa Bay Rays system, he hit .103/.229/.414 with three home runs and four RBI in eight games.

Overall, Cannon spent six seasons in the minor leagues, hitting .255/.240/.476 with 94 home runs and 295 RBI in 516 games.
