He was 4th in the league in average (between Kun-Yu Chiang and Wei-Chen Wang), 3rd in steals (after Chen-Wei Chen and Tien-Hsin Kuo) and 1st with 25 sacrifice hits (11 ahead of Cheng-Hua Yueh). He batted .231/.333/.308 in the 2022 Taiwan Series, and the Monkeys were swept by the CTBC Brothers.

Cheng then made Taiwan's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. [4] He pinch-hit for Po-Jung Wang in the 7th inning against Italy, and he singled against Joey Marciano; he was retired by Claudio Scotti in his next at-bat. Cheng then pinch-hit for Wang versus Cuba and Raidel Martinez retired him. He recorded a .290/.368/.338 batting line with 14 doubles in the 2023 season. He was 5-for-13 in the 2023 CPBL Playoff Series and helped the Monkeys eliminate the Uni-President Lions, but he only hit .083/.185/.083 in the 2023 Taiwan Series when the Monkeys were beaten by the Wei Chuan Dragons in 7 games.
