Biographical Information

Chih-Wei Chen played in the CPBL for 8 years.

Chen was drafted by the Sinon Bulls in the fourth round of the 2005 CPBL Draft, and he spent his rookie seasons in the CPBL minor league. Making it to the big club, Chen hit .314/.336/.436 with a league-leading 6 triples in 2007, and he also attended the 2007 CPBL All-Star Game; he was 0-for-1. He extended his solid batting, hitting .276/.316/.389 in 2008 and recording a .301/.327/.426 batting line with a career-high 22 doubles in 2009. He ranked 8th in doubles in '09, 15 behind Wilton Veras.

The New Taipei native slumped to .246/.291/.291 in 2010, and he lost his starting spot due to his terrible defense. He was 0-for-2 in the 2010 Taiwan Series, and the Bulls were swept by the Brother Elephants. Chen hit .236/.259/.327 in 2011, then bounced back and recorded a .297/.351/.401 batting line in 2012. He was also selected into the 2012 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was 0-for-1. Chen stayed in the minor league for nearly the entire 2013 season, and he announced his retirement. He was an assistant coach of the National Taiwan Sport University from 2015 to 2019, then became a coach of the Wei Chuan Dragons in 2020.

Overall, Chen hit .283/.317/.387 with 407 hits and 12 homers in 8 seasons in CPBL.
