Biographical Information[edit]

Chia-Wei Lin had been a pitcher in the Chinese Professional Baseball League for 6 years.

Lin played for Taiwan in the 2005 Asian Junior Championship. In the 2006 Haarlem Baseball Week, he allowed four runs (all unearned) and three walks in 1/3 of an inning and took the loss against the Dutch national team. He played for Taiwan when they won the Silver Medal at the 2006 World University Championship. After college, the La New Bears took him in the 3rd round of the 2009 CPBL Draft.

In 2010, Lin led the CPBL minors in losses (6-8) and walks (58) but also in strikeouts (78). He made it to the CPBL in 2011, going 3-2 with a save and a 5.40 ERA for the Lamigo Monkeys (the Bears had been renamed since he was drafted). His 60 games pitched tied Yu-Chieh Shen for the league lead. He lost game 2 of the 2011 Taiwan Series. The southpaw was 2-4 with five saves and a 3.53 ERA, while finishing second in the 2012 CPBL in games pitched (62) and 3rd in holds (15). He was also selected into the 2012 CPBL All-Star Game, and he pitched a shutout inning.

Lin was on the Taiwan roster for the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but was their only player who did not get used as they won a spot in the Classic. However, Lin was injured in 2013, so he only pitched 7 games. The Monkeys then traded him to the Uno-President Lions for Chin-Hao Tsai. Lin only pitched 13 games combined for the Lions in the next three seasons. Although he led the minors in wins in 2016, the Lions still released him, and his professional career ended.

Overall, Lin was 5-7 with a 4.94 ERA, notched 23 holds in 142 appearances, struck out 124 and pitched 176 2/3 innings in 6 seasons in the CPBL.

Lin throws a curveball, slider, changeup, cutter and fastball (peak 89 mph).
