Biographical Information[edit]
Chia-Jung Wu played in the CPBL. His cousin is former CPBL pitcher Chih-Chiang Chang
Wu was signed by the Uni-President Lions in the 1998. He hit .261/.309/.318 in his rookie year, but only recorded .192/.266/.231 and .188/.275/.227 batting lines respectively in the next two years. Wu broke out in 2002, won his first career CPBL Gold Glove award as a third baseman and a .233/.272/.307 batting line. He improved to .254/.313/.335 in 2003, won the Gold Glove again, and participated in the All-Star Game for the first time in his career. He led the league in game played (100) and triples (7). The Donghe native extended his excellent performance in 2004, hit .242/.331/.311 and won his third Gold Glove and his second All-Star appearance. However, this was the last productive year for Wu. He only batted .176/.269/.197 and .203/.276/.215 respectively in the next two years. After he played a career-low 39 games in 2007, Wu announced his retirement and turned into a coach. He was the defense coach for the lions from 2010 to 2014, and left the team to coach high schools. He was the coach of the Hualien Physical Education High School from 2018 to 2019, and coached Yuli High School from 2021 to present(2023).
Overall, Wu had hit .225/.299/.281 in nine seasons in the CPBL.
