Biographical Information[edit]
Chi-guk Park has pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization and for the South Korean national team.
The Doosan Bears took him in the second round of the 2017 KBO draft. [1] He struggled as a rookie in 2017 (1-1, 6.75 in 21 G). He improved to 1-5 with 3 saves and a 3.63 ERA in 67 games in 2018 as Doosan made the 2018 Korean Series. He was 6th in the 2018 KBO in games pitched. [2]
He was the youngest pitcher and second-youngest player on South Korea's squad for the 2018 Asian Games (Jung-hoo Lee was younger). He got into three games. Against Taiwan, he relieved Woo-ram Jung with a 2-1 deficit and two outs in the 8th and retired Hsiao-Yun Chen. Deok-ju Ham took over in the 9th. Relieving Ham in the 8th with a 8-3 lead over Hong Kong, he pitched two shutout innings, allowing only a Ho-Nam Leung single. Finally, against China, he replaced Pil-joon Jang with one out in the 9th and a 10-1 lead. He gave up a single to Yunqi Song but retired Jin Yang and whiffed Zhenhong Lu to end it. South Korea would take the Gold and Park would thus be exempted from military service. [3]
