Biographical Information[edit]

Cheng-Hao Cheng pitched in the CPBL for 8 years. His uncle is CPBL legendary second baseman and manager Chung-Yi Huang.

Cheng was drafted by the La New Bears in the 2nd round of the 2010 CPBL Draft, and he had a 4.33 ERA in 36 appearances in his rookie year.[1] He was selected into the 2012 CPBL All-Star Game, and he relieved Luis Gonzalez in the 6th inning. However, he allowed a run in one inning of work and got a blown save. Cheng ended up 9-6 with a 4.87 ERA in 2012, and he ranked 7th in wins (7 behind Yuya Kamada). In the 2012 Taiwan Series, he pitched a shutout inning in Game 3, and he won his first Taiwan Series title as the Lamigo Monkeys (the Bears had changed their name) beat the Uni-President Lions in 5 games.[2]

The Hualien native slumped to a 5.88 ERA in 34 games in 2013, and his ERA rose to 7.79 in 2014. Cheng only pitched 11 games in 2015, and his ERA was 5.02. He struggled again in 2016 as he recorded a 7.29 ERA in 36 relief outings. Cheng bounced back a little in 2017, but his ERA was still 5.32 in 41 appearances. He a shutout inning in 2017 Taiwan Series Game 1, and won another Taiwan Series title as the Monkeys beat the CTBC Brothers in 5 games. The Monkeys released him after he only pitched 6 games in 2018, and Cheng's professional career ended.

Cheng's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 90 mph, a changeup, cutter, slider and curveball.

Overall, Cheng was 24-21 with a 5.50 ERA, collected 17 holds and 204 strikeouts, while he pitched 387 2/3 innings in 211 appearances in 8 years in the CPBL.
