Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Chase Silseth made his major league debut as the starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels against the Oakland Athletics on May 13, 2022. It was a very good first outing, as he pitched 6 innings, allowing just 1 hit and no runs, in a 2-0 win. He went 1-3, 6.59 in 7 starts while spending most of the season in the AA Southern League with the Rocket City Trash Pandas, where he went 7-0, 2.28 in 15 starts. On September 3rd, he combined with Luke Murphy and Eric Torres to throw the first no-hitter in the history of the Trash Pandas, an 8-0 win over the Biloxi Shuckers.

He was selected by the Angels in the 11th round of the 2021 amateur draft; that made him the first player taken in that draft to reach the major leagues. He played in the 2021 College World Series for the University of Arizona. It was actually his third school, as he had initially accepted an offer to attend the University of Tennessee, then moved to the College of Southern Nevada for a year when things did not turn out as expected, before transferring to Arizona for his junior season.

In 2022 Silseth was named Southern League Pitcher of the Year while playing for AA Rocket City. He started the 2023 season in AAA with the Salt Lake Bees of the Pacific Coast League. He was first called up to Los Angeles on April 26th and stayed with the team until early June, going 1-1, 5.30 in 9 games, but only one start. He went back to the minors until mid-July, and from that point forward was used exclusively as a starter. He had improved his record to 4-1 when on August 26th, he was the victim of a freakish accident as he was hit by a throw by 1B Trey Cabbage on the side of the head as Cabbage was throwing across the diamond to try to cut down New York Mets baserunner Francisco Lindor. He was down for several minutes before having to leave the game.
