Charlotte, NC was home to no minor league team from 1973-1975, but in 1972 it was home to two - the Charlotte Hornets of the Southern League and the Charlotte Twins of the Western Carolinas League, playing their only season. Both were Minnesota Twins farm teams. The Charlotte Twins drew 13,835 fans, 5th in the 6-team WCL. Managed by Bob Sadowski, they were 50-79, half a game above the last-place Anderson Giants. Charlotte was outscored 621-517 and had no All-Stars. Lew Lerner (7-8, 8 Sv, 2.68) struck out 194 batters in 148 innings to lead the WCL in K's and was second in ERA. Contributing on offense were 2B Rob Wilfong (.295/~.396/.372, 7th in the league in average, 27 SB) and OF Lyman Bostock (.294/~.421/.384).
