Biographical Information

Charlie Gorin, a lefthander out of the University of Texas, helped lead the Longhorns to back-to-back National Championships in the College World Series in 1949 and 1950. He was signed by the Boston Braves as an amateur free agent in 1950. Gorin spent two seasons in the minors (1950-1951) and then the United States military made use of his services in 1952 and 1953, during the Korean War.

Back from military service, Gorin was 0-1 in seven games for the Milwaukee Braves in 1954 and 1955 and this was all he would see of the major leagues during his pro baseball career. He spent the rest of his playing time in the high minors with his best year coming in 1959 with the Austin Senators of the Texas League when he won 16 and lost 7 with a 2.96 ERA and led the league in strikeouts with 143.

Charlie spent three more years in the minors, finishing out an eleven-year career in 1962 with the Austin Senators. During his baseball time, he appeared in 311 outings, won 85 and lost 89, pitching 1,465 innings, giving up 1,401 base hits and 654 base on balls, and winding up with a minor league career 3.69 ERA.

After baseball he went on to become a high school teacher and coach after earning his master's degree in education and was the dean of boys and the assistant principal at John Reagan High School in Austin, TX, before retiring in 1990.
