Biographical Information[edit]
Charlie Frye started in organized baseball in 1937 with the Mooresville Moors in the Class D North Carolina State League. He played for the Evansville Bees, in the Class B Three-I League, the Martinsville Manufacturers in the Bi-State League, but it was while with the Portsmouth Cubs in the Piedmont League in 1940 that he impressed the Philadelphia Phillies and was bought by them in July and appeared in 15 games. He went back to the minors and was with the Allentown Wings and Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Class B Interstate League until he went into the Army. Shortly after being discharged in 1945 he died.
