Biographical Information[edit]

Chad Oberacker began his pro career in 2011.

Amateur Career[edit]

Oberacker played baseball, basketball and golf in high school, setting his school's record for RBI in a season. As a freshman in college, he was 3-2 and struck out 30 in 21 innings but had a 7.29 ERA; he hit .262/.367/.452. His pitching was about the same in 2009 (2-3, 7.39) but his offense improved significantly (.354/.418/.497, 51 R in 50 G). His junior year, he put on a show, producing at a .452/.525/.690 clip with 67 runs, 29 doubles and 70 RBI in 56 games. He was 1-3 with a 6.92 ERA as a hurler. He led the Ohio Valley Conference in average (by 20 points), doubles and hits (108) and was also among the OVC leaders in OBP (3rd), OPS (5th), runs (tied for 3rd), total bases (165, 3rd), triples (5, tied for 2nd), RBI (3rd) and walks (34, 5th). He made All-Conference in the outfield. He was named to the All-American team by Collegiate Baseball, joining Alex Dickerson and Gary Brown in the outfield. The American Baseball Coaches Association picked him second-team, going with Dickerson, Brown and Chris Duffy instead on the first team. Baseball America did not pick him for any of their three teams. Despite his impressive year, he fell to the 19th round of the 2010 amateur draft before the St. Louis Cardinals took him. He opted to return for his senior year.

Chad's production fell off his senior year to .325/.433/.545 with 10 home runs and 48 RBI in 52 games; he had a 2-2, 4.08 record. He tied for 4th in the OVC in walks (33) and tied for 5th in home runs, making All-Conference again. The Oakland Athletics chose him in the 25th round of the 2011 amateur draft; the scout was Matt Ranson.

Minor League Career[edit]

Starting off with the Vermont Lake Monsters, Oberacker hit .293/.371/.350 in 46 games in the summer of 2011 and stole 13 bases in 15 tries. He fielded .983 in the outfield.
