Biographical Information[edit]

Celso Rondon was a minor league pitcher.

Rondon was 2-2 with a 1.23 ERA and 47 K in 44 IP for Universidad de Carabobo in the 2001 Venezuelan Summer League. He made his US debut in 2002, going 2-1 with a 6.37 ERA and 2.01 WHIP for the Kingsport Mets. He had a 6.97 ERA in 11 winter outings for the Navegantes del Magallanes. In 2003, he was 2-2 with 11 saves and a 4.10 ERA for Kingsport; his WHIP was almost halved to 1.14 and he whiffed 44 in 26 1/3 IP. He was second in the Appalachian League in saves, one behind Dewon Day.

With Magallanes in 2003-2004, the right-hander was 0-1 with a 6.27 ERA in 15 outings. He tied for third on the club in pitching appearances behind veterans Pat Mahomes and Rob Stanifer. He split the summer of 2004 with the Brooklyn Cyclones (3-2, 12 Sv, 2.23, 47 K in 36 1/3 IP, 1.02 WHIP in 27 G) and the Capital City Bombers (4-3, Sv, 4.71, 41 K in 36 1/3 IP). He tied for 4th in the New York-Penn League in saves and tied Day for 6th with 27 games pitched. Among Mets farmhands, he tied P.J. Bevis for first in appearances and was 4th in saves (behind Heath Bell, Jose Parra and Bevis). He was 3-1 with a 6.52 ERA in winter ball, then missed 2005 due to injury.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays took Rondon in the second round of the 2005 Rule V Draft's AAA phase. He split the summer between the Hudson Valley Renegades (0-1, Sv, 1.93 in 14 G) and Southwest Michigan Devil Rays (0-1, Sv, 4.70 in 6 G) to end his US career. On August 18, he finished Mike Wlodarczyk's no-hitter against the Peoria Chiefs. He wound up his career with Magallanes that winter, giving up 3 hits, 4 walks and two unearned runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Celso was 13-12 with 26 saves and a 3.44 ERA in his minor league career and 3-2 with a 6.34 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in 41 games in the Venezuelan League.
