Category talk:Pre-MLB Players
I like this new category. It helps us cover some more of baseball's early history, like Jim Creighton. - --Mischa 09:43, 18 Apr 2006 (EDT)
Ironically, as you were putting this in, I was COBBLING together a short bio of Jim Creighton --Ron 10:32, 18 Apr 2006 (EDT)
Can we rename it Pre-MLB Players? --Scott 19:54, 18 Apr 2006 (EDT)
Moved, per Scott and all other player categories are Description Players. --MichaelEng 10:39, 20 Apr 2006 (EDT)
Should we define this category as applying only to players not covered under "Player" or can people overlap? I could go either way on this one. What do others think? - --Mischa 01:50, 23 Apr 2006 (EDT)
Obviously, all of those who played in the National Association's first couple of seasons would have played at some level pre-MLB, but it doesn't add much to put them all in this category. I propose we only include those who had significant careers pre-MLB, in addition to the players who never played MLB like Jim Creighton.--Philippe 02:25, 23 Apr 2006 (EDT)
- Rename to :Category:National Association of Base Ball Players players for players who played exclusively in, or predominantly in (max of 3 years in NAPBBP?) the NABBP. The MLB wasn't in existence until the 20th century, and these players mostly played in the association. --MichaelEng (talk) 18:24, 16 June 2007 (EDT)
Most people use MLB to refer to all the official "major leagues" so the term "MLB players" includes guys from the NL and AA in the 1876-1899 period. Also, this category is for people who predate even the NA. Maybe pre-NA players? Pre-professional league players? - --Mischa 21:19, 17 June 2007 (EDT)
For the record there were already guys who played in and after 1871 in this category that I didn't even add. I finished removing the last of them.

Should we put some kind of notability criteria? - Mischa (talk) 14:30, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
Like what? Gothy (talk) 14:31, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
I think they should be considered notable as long as the played in the National Association of Base Ball Players as it was the starter for what eventually became MLB.
Up to 50 entries. - Mischa (talk) 16:34, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
