Category talk:Minor League Managers
Shouldn't there be a different category for guys like Stan Wasiak and Bob Coleman (over 35 years each), versus Leo Mazzone (3 years) as an example. --Just me 09:42, 22 Mar 2006 (EST)
We don't make such distinctions in other categories. For instance, Sadaharu Oh (2,831 games) and Mike Greenwell (7 games) are both listed as Nippon Pro Baseball Players. Both Pete Rose The Gambler (3,562 games) and Jeff Banister (1 game) are listed under Player. Vern Benson (1 game managed) and Connie Mack (7,755) are listed under Manager. - --Mischa 10:41, 22 Mar 2006 (EST)
That's true except for one category. We have Minor league players and Minor league Stars. --Just me 10:58, 22 Mar 2006 (EST)
Or perhaps we could establish our own Minor League "Hall of Fame". --Ron 10:59, 22 Mar 2006 (EST)

We went over 5,000 at some point recently. - Mischa (talk) 14:20, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
It's not appropriate to add the 2020 season to the managers' Managerial Records. The season never happened and there were no minor league teams, so its not part of the record. Also, we see minor league coaching staffs announced in November, December, January, and by the time the season starts in April the staff has changed. So we can't assert that the manager would have been there with 100% certainty anyway. It is appropriate, and instructive, to add the "he was scheduled to..." blurb in the biographical information. By the time the season was cancelled, these positions were set - the exceptions of the type you cite are very rare. In most cases, the manager skippered the same team also in 2019 or in 2021. The managers were in spring training and getting ready for the start of the season which was less than a month away when everything shut down. I think it's legitimate to acknowledge that they were the team's manager even if the season was cancelled. Philippe (talk) 22:08, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
