Biographical Information[edit]

Reliever Casey Blalock spent two seasons in the Florida Marlins system, 2002 and 2003. He was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 48th round of the 1999 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Marlins in the 27th round of the 2002 amateur draft.

He split his first campaign between the Low A Jamestown Jammers (23 G) and High A Jupiter Hammerheads (4 G), going a combined 3-3 with a 1.62 ERA in 27 appearances between them. In 39 innings, he allowed 24 hits and 11 walks (0.897 WHIP), while striking out 36 batters. In 2003, he played for the Single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers (56 G) and Jupiter (2 G), going 6-3 with a 1.67 ERA and 19 saves in 58 games; in 70 innings, he allowed 47 hits and 16 walks (0.900 WHIP), while striking out 76 batters.

Despite two excellent seasons, Blalock quit professional baseball and returned to Louisiana Tech to graduate.
