Biographical Information[edit]

A short, husky man with a name like a butler, Carlton Molesworth had a very brief major league career at the age of 19, but went on to become a member of the Birmingham Barons Hall of Fame. Although a pitcher in the majors, he was an outfielder starting in 1906 with the Barons, and in 1908 became player/manager. Pie Traynor and Burleigh Grimes played for him in Birmingham. Molesworth managed the Birmingham Barons of the Southern Association from 1908 to 1922 and the Columbus Senators from 1923 to 1925.

Molesworth scouted for the Pittsburgh Pirates for 30 years.

"Carlton Molesworth's Team Winner of the Pennant in a Well-Conducted and Exceptionally Successful Campaign." - subtitle to the headline "Close of the Race" about the 1914 pennant race in the Southern League, from an article in Sporting Life, September 26, 1914, which included a photo of Molesworth
