Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Cam Collier is the son of Lou Collier. He was selected by the Cincinnati Reds with the 18th overall pick in the 1st round of the 2022 amateur draft out of Chipola College. He had been on prospects watch lists for a long time by then, had managed to obtain his GED early, and instead of going to an NCAA Division-I school as had been anticipated (he had a commitment to attend the University of Louisville in 2023), played a season of junior college in what would normally have been his senior high school year, and then appeared in the Cape Cod League at just 17, facing off against some much older players. It was a path similar to that taken before him by Bryce Harper, and it worked for him as well. The Reds signed him to a bonus of $5 million, more than his draft slot but reflecting the fact that he was ranked the #8 pre-draft prospect and was young enough that he could have easily waited another year had he not received a satisfactory offer.

His first professional experience was with the ACL Reds in 2022, when he hit .370 in 9 games. In 2023, he was assigned to the Daytona Tortugas of the Florida State League, where he was one of the youngest players in the circuit, and hit .246/.349/.356 in 111 games. Defensively, he played strictly third base. In 2024, he moved up to the Dayton Dragons of the Midwest League where he began to develop some power. Once again, he was among the youngest players in the league. He was named to the National League team for the 2024 Futures Game and won the Larry Doby Award as the game's MVP thanks to a 409-foot homer off Caden Dana to lead off the 3rd inning and to open the score for the NL on its way to a 6-1 win.
