Biographical Information[edit]
C.J. Baker played college ball at Simpson University and graduated in 2014 with a degree in Communications & Psychology. Baker spent the summer of 2013 working with the communications team for the mayor of San Diego, an experience that caused him to hate politics.[1] He continued his education at the University of Washington where he earned a master's degree in Education.
Soon after graduating from Simpson, Baker began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Shoreline Community College Dolphins for the 2015 season. He worked primarily with the catchers and hitters, and helped lead Shoreline to its first playoff appearance since the 1970's. In 2016 Baker worked as a graduate assistant coach at Seattle University where he assisted with all facets of running a collegiate baseball program and oversaw development of infielders, outfielders, catchers, and hitters. Baker moved to Pennsylvania in 2017 as a volunteer assistant coach at Lock Haven University. During his one season there, the Bald Eagles set a program record with 32 wins, won their first playoff game since 1988, and topped out at a No. 3 ranking in their regional poll. In the summer of 2017 season Baker served as the head coach for the Hornell Dodgers who played in the New York Collegiate Baseball League. Baker spent 2018-2019 at Bucknell University as an assistant coach.
Baker returned to the west coast in 2020 as an assistant coach at Biola University. He stayed there through the end of 2021. Baker joined Stanford University in 2022 as their Video, Technology, and Analytics Coordinator. During his two years with the Cardinal, the team reached the College World Series in both seasons.
In 2024 the Minnesota Twins hired Baker as a hitting coach for the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
