Biographical Information

Right-hander Buzz Dozier was an eighteen-year-old from Baylor University when he signed as an amateur free agent with the Washington Senators on September 1, 1947. He made his debut with the big league Senators on September 12, of that same year. He appeared in two games, giving up two hits and had no decisions his first trip in the major leagues.

Buzz spent the 1948 season with the Charlotte Hornets of the class B Tri-State League, winning eight times and losing the same, with a 6.20 ERA while appearing in 39 games. He was back with Charlotte in the '49 year, going 7-7 with a 2.90 ERA and also spent time with the Chattanooga Lookouts of the AA Southern Association, where he was 0-1, giving him a combined 7-8 record in 23 games for the season.

Buzz was called back to the Senators, who were destined to finish dead-last in the American League in 1949. He appeared in two late-season contests, allowing 12 hits and 8 runs for a 11.37 ERA, but got out with no decisions and this ended his big league time.

Dozier was with the Augusta Tigers of the class A South Atlantic League during the 1950 season, winning 3 and losing 6 with a 5.97 ERA in 22 appearances. 1951 was going to be the end of the 22-year-old pitcher's professional career. Buzz spent time with three teams - the Sherman-Denison Twins, Texarkana Bears and the Port Arthur Seahawks - all of the class B variety, went 5-5 in 27 games and decided to pursue other work and called it a career.

Not much is known about Dozier's life after baseball. Buzz died at the age of 77 in Waco, TX.
