Biographical Information[edit]
Butch McBroom was National Baseball Congress player of the year in 1966 and an all Southwest Conference catcher at Baylor. After graduation he an assistant coach at Baylor and coached at various Texas high schools. [1] He was then 48-17 as head coach of Union University (1972-1973) then was 756–686–1 at the University of Texas at Arlington from 1974-1999. He coached John Lackey, Dave Owen and Steve Foster at Arlington. His number 30 was the first one to be retired by Texas-Arlington's baseball program. He then moved into an administrative role with UTA, serving as the department's Director of Development until 2004.
McBroom was previously a cancer survivor who had his leg amputated due to the disease in 1983.
