Biographical Information

Bunny Madden played three seasons in the big leagues. With the Boston Red Sox in 1910, he had 40 plate appearances and posted a batting line of .371/.436/.457. The next season, 1911, split between the Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies, he had his most playing time, with a .264 batting average in 93 plate appearances.

Madden appeared exclusively at catcher.

He was born in 1882 in Boston, MA, and attended Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He is listed as attending in the period 1901-1909. A number of other future major leaguers were at Villanova during that period, including Mickey Doolan, who went on to have over 6,000 major league plate appearances. Doolan also played for the Phillies in 1911.

Madden played at least 13 seasons in the minors. He was with the Lynn Shoemakers in 1906-1907 and the Portland Beavers in 1908 before coming to the majors. After his time in the majors, he played for many more years, including from 1912 to 1917 with the Montreal Royals.

One columnist named Madden to his all "Easter Sunday" lineup, along with others such as Rabbit Maranville and Henry Easterday.
