The Houston Astros took Williams in the 11th round of the 2009 amateur draft; the scout was Jim Stevenson. He was the starter that summer for the Greeneville Astros and batted .202/.239/.341. He split 2010 between Greeneville (.244/.272/.474 in 25 G) and the Lexington Legends (.147/.147/.206 in 12 G). He eked out a .206/.223/.397 line with the 2011 Tri-City Dust Devils, continuing to show good power (6 homers in 131 AB) but little on-base ability. With his career average barely over the Mendoza line, Houston let him go. He moved on to the independent leagues in 2012 with the Kansas City T-Bones and Normal CornBelters. He played for a few more teams in the independent leagues until 2014.
