Bryon Horn was the first player from Eastern Michigan to win All-American honors, chosen as the best 2B in NCAA Division I by the American Baseball Coaches Association in 1981. Baseball America, picking its first All-American team, chose Jeff Ronk instead; neither would make the majors. The Detroit Tigers took him in the 20th round of the 1981 amateur draft. He played one season as a pro, hitting .255/.383/.318 with 25 runs, just 4 RBI and 23 walks to 6 strikeouts in 40 games for the 1981 Lakeland Tigers. He fielded .946 at second base.
