Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Bruce Compton was taken 11th overall by the Cleveland Indians in the 1977 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Randy Martz and ahead of pitcher Bob Welch.

He spent only one season in the Indians system before being traded to the Chicago Cubs on December 5, 1977 with fellow minor leaguer Norm Churchill for infielder Dave Rosello. He stayed in the Cubs system through 1980, never playing above A ball. Overall, he hit .143/.314/.184 with two home runs, 34 RBI and 136 strikeouts in 342 at-bats. He also walked 82 times and scored as many runs (49) as he had hits.
