Biographical Information

The son of Tim Wallach, pitcher Brett Wallach had a 10-1, 2.26 record, 111 K in 103 2/3 IP and a .371 average in junior college in 2009 to win conference Player of the Year. He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round of the 2009 amateur draft, the 96th overall selection. The scout was Brian Stephenson and he signed for a $351,900 bonus. He made his pro debut that summer with the Ogden Raptors, going 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA in 12 starts, striking out 38 in 31 innings. He allowed four runs in three playoff innings in a loss to the Orem Owlz. Baseball America named him the Dodgers' #20 prospect and the #16 Pioneer League prospect (between John Lamb and Nick Bucci). He opened 2010 with the Great Lakes Loons and had a 6-0, 3.72 record after 17 starts. In July 2010, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs as part of a 5-player deal, sent with Blake DeWitt and Kyle Smit for Ted Lilly, Ryan Theriot and cash. After the trade, he was 0-4 with a 5.76 ERA for the Peoria Chiefs. Overall, he had 61 walks and 116 whiffs in 114 1/3 IP. He tied for 8th in the Midwest League in walks.

Brett split 2011 between Peoria (1-4, 6.49, 23 BB in 26 1/3 IP) and the Daytona Cubs (3-5, 5.74). He pitched poorly (8.18 ERA, 2.18 WHIP in 7 G) for Daytona in 2012, seemingly ending his career. He had gone 10-14 with a 5.23 ERA in 69 minor league games, with 258 K and 138 BB in 273 2/3 IP.

Wallach is also the brother of minor leaguer Matt Wallach and major league catcher Chad Wallach.
