Biographical Information[edit]

Brett Price pitched in the minor leagues from 2001 to 2005. He spent four seasons at High A, but never advanced beyond that level.

Taken by the Oakland Athletics in the 14th round of the 2001 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher Kevin Barry, he was 7-2 with a 2.34 ERA in 20 games (4 starts) for the Vancouver Canadians his first campaign. In 50 innings, he allowed just 32 hits and struck out 59 batters. In 2002, with the Modesto A's, Price went 2-5 with a 3.09 ERA in 35 games (2 starts); he averaged 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings. Back with Modesto in 2003, he went 2-1 with a 2.98 ERA in 41 appearances, striking out 64 batters in 54 1/3 innings. On December 19, 2003, he was sent to the Montreal Expos as the player to be named later in a deal that sent catcher Michael Barrett to the Athletics. He pitched for the Brevard County Manatees in 2004, going 6-4, 3.53 in 23 games (19 starts). In 2005, his final campaign, he went 10-13, 4.44 in 28 starts for the Potomac Nationals. By that point, he was 25 and still pitching at the A level.

Overall, Price went 27-25 with a 3.58 ERA in 147 games (53 starts). In 394 1/3 innings, he allowed 325 hits and 231 walks (1.410 WHIP), while striking out 434 batters (9.9 K/9 IP).
