Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Brett Kennedy was an 11th-round pick in the 2015 amateur draft by the San Diego Padres, out of Fordham University. In his first season as a pro, he went 0-2, 2.70 in 12 games and 30 innings for the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Northwest League in 2015, then followed that by going 8-11, 3.54 for two teams in 2016. Those teams were the Fort Wayne TinCaps and the Lake Elsinore Storm. In 2017, he had an excellent season in the AA Texas League, putting up a 13-7 mark with a 3.70 ERA for the San Antonio Missions. He made 26 starts, logged 141 innings and struck out 134 batters, against just 38 walks.
He had a great first four months with the El Paso Chihuahuas of the Pacific Coast League in 2018, going 10-0 with an ERA of 2.72 over his first 16 starts. That earned him a call-up to San Diego shortly after his 24th birthday, but he had a rough debut facing the Milwaukee Brewers on August 8th. In the 1st inning, he was tagged for consecutive homers by Jesus Aguilar, Travis Shaw and Eric Thames, the first of these coming with two men on base. He settled down after that, allowing just one more run before departing after 4 innings, but the harm had been done and he was charged with an 8-4 loss.
He returned to the major leagues five years after his last appearance when he 1-0, 6.50 in 5 games with the Cincinnati Reds in 2023.
