Biographical Information[edit]

Brent Gaff pitched for the New York Mets from 1982 to 1984.

Gaff was drafted in the sixth round of the 1977 amateur draft by the Mets, and pitched as a starter for most of his time in the minors. He was with the Wausau Mets in 1978 and the Wausau Timbers in 1979, going 10-5 in 1979. He was with the Jackson Mets in 1980 and for part of 1981, and thereafter spent parts of each season from 1981 to 1985 with the Tidewater Tides. In 1981, split between Jackson and Tidewater, he went 14-6.

He came up to the Mets in July 1982, and pitched in seven games that season, starting five of them. In 1983 he was up for four games, all in relief.

In 1984 he became a frequently-used reliever, appearing in 47 games and finishing 18 of them. He was six years older than rookie Dwight Gooden. It was the year when the Mets turned things around, going 90-72 after having gone 68-94 the year before.

A rotator cuff injury ended his season with the Mets before opening day in 1985 and he was released at the end of the year.[1] He went to spring training with the Milwaukee Brewers as a non-roster invitee in 1986[2] but was reassigned to minor league camp[3] and did not pitch in professional baseball afterward.
