Brendon Thomas pitched in the minors and for the Australian national team.
Thomas debuted in the 1998-1999 Australian Baseball League, going 0-1 with a 5.70 ERA in 15 games for the Perth Heat, surrendering 9 homers in 30 innings. When the ABL became the International Baseball League of Australia in 1999-2000, he was with the Western Australia Heelers and was 2-1 with a 1.26 ERA in 7 games. He tied David White for 3rd in the IBLA in games pitched.
Starting for Australia one game in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, he allowed 7 hits and 4 runs in 6 innings; he struck out five and walked none. In the 2002 Claxton Shield, he had a 2-0, 1.00 record for the Heelers. He lost the ERA title by .04 to Shane Tonkin and tied for the most wins. Pitching in the US that summer, he was 3-5 with a 4.32 ERA for the Evansville Otters.
In the 2003 Claxton Shield, he was 1-0 with no runs in 6 2/3 IP; he went five innings to beat Victoria in the semifinals. He tied P.J. Bevis for the ERA lead and tied for the win lead. He helped Australia win the 2003 Oceania Championship. In 2004, he was 1-1 with a save and a 6.14 ERA in the Claxton Shield, allowing a homer to Dave Nilsson in the semifinal loss to Queensland.
In the 2005 Claxton Shield, he beat the Australian Provincials and got a save against New South Wales. He allowed 3 hits and no walks in 10 2/3 IP that year, giving up one unearned run. His .083 average allowed was the lowest, .006 ahead of Simon Beresford. He was named the second-team All-Star reliever after Chris Oxspring. In 2006, he had a 3.38 ERA and beat the Provincials to improve to 8-3 (with a 3.14 ERA) in 35 games in Australia.
Thomas was 0-1 with a 3.12 ERA in the 2007 Claxton Shield. A B. Thomas was 1-2 with a 5.51 ERA in the 2008 Shield tournament, but it is unclear if this was Brendon or his former teammate Bradley Thomas.
