Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Brendan Lafferty was selected in the 18th round of the 2009 amateur draft by the Kansas City Royals, out of UCLA. It was his second time being drafted, having been taken in the 47th round of the 2004 amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies when he was coming out of high school.

He pitched profressionally from 2009 to 2015, the first four seasons in the Royals system, and the final three in the independent leagues, with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association. used almost exclusively as a reliever, he peaked with two seasons in AA with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals of the Texas League. It was there that he had the highlight of his career, on May 10, 2012, when he combined with three other pitchers on a no-hitter against the Springfield Cardinals. The game was started by Greg Holland, normally a short reliever who was on a rehabilitation assignment from the Royals, who pitched one inning. Chris Dwyer then pitched the bulk of the game, 6 2/3 innings and Brendan recorded the final put in the 8th inning before turning the ball over to closer Kendal Volz, who completed the 2-0 win. Brendan was never a frontline reliever, with his career high being 5 wins and 6 saves, the latter when he was with Winnipeg. He did have good strikeout rates, though, including 71 in 60 1/3 innings for the Naturals in 2012.
