Biographical Information[edit]

Bobby Henrich spent three years in the majors, at ages 18, 19, and 20. He was signed by the Cincinnati Redlegs as a bonus baby in 1956. Although he had only 16 at-bats in his three seasons in the majors, he appeared in 48 games at four defensive positions and also was used as a pinch-runner. He was a second-year player with the Redlegs in 1958 at age 19 when rookie Vada Pinson came up, also at age 19; Pinson and Henrich were the two youngest position players on the team.

Henrich was three years younger than Frank Robinson, who had made his debut with the Redlegs in 1956, one year before Henrich's debut.

He was a distant relative of Tommy Henrich. He was a top high school baseball player in Compton, CA and also played football and basketball in high school. He was the fastest runner on the 1957 Redlegs team. He played in Panama in the winter between the 1957 and 1958 seasons. In 1958 he spent most of the season in the South Atlantic League. In 1959 he was back there, and also spent some time in the Pacific Coast League. In 1960 he played for the Nashville Volunteers. He gave up professional baseball at age 22 and went into the insurance business. Source for this paragraph: Baseball Leg Men.
