Compton, CA
Compton is located in southern California, in the Los Angeles, CA metropolitan area, southeast of downtown. The city has a largely black and hispanic population of lower socio-economic status, with attendant social problems. It was notorious during the 1980s crack epidemic for its youth gangs and association with gangster rap, although there have been improvements in recent years. Major League Baseball's original Urban Youth Academy is located here, on the campus of El Camino College's Compton Center.
