Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Bob Zambrano spent 19 years in the minor leagues.

He played in the Boston Red Sox system from 1985 to 1989, slashing .291/.403/.529 with 19 home runs and 79 RBI in 112 games for the Greensboro Hornets as an 18-year-old his first season. He never reached such lofty totals in affiliated ball again, though he hit 14 home runs between two clubs in 1989 and hit .315/.398/.476 in 58 games while in the Cleveland Indians system in 1990. After reaching Triple A for the first time in 1991, he did not play in 1992, and wrapped up his stateside career in the Colorado Rockies organization in 1993.

Zambrano played in the Mexican League from 1994 to 2004, hitting .305/.439/.661 with 39 home runs and 100 RBI in 110 games for the Langosteros de Cancun in 2000. He had a .329/.431/.462 slash line in 98 games for the Sultanes de Monterrey in 2001, then hit 20 home runs with a .302/.425/.616 line in 68 games for the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos in 2002. In 2003, he hit another 21 home runs.

He won two Most Valuable Player awards while playing in the Venezuelan League.

His brothers Eddie Zambrano and Jose Zambrano both played professionally, while his nephew Rougned Odor played in the majors and another nephew also named Rougned Odor has played in the minors. He is also related to Rouglas Odor.
