Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Rougned Odor is the brother of Rougned Odor. The two brothers share a first and last name but have different middle names, so the younger sibling is sometimes called Rougned J. Odor to distinguish him from his older brother. To add to the confusion, the younger Rougned is also a member of the Texas Rangers organization, having signed with the team before the 2015 season. The two created a perfect d=vortex of confusion on March 17, 2018 when the Rangers called up Rougned J. from minor league camp and had him play a couple of innings in a Cactus League game against the Kansas City Royals; he was at shortstop while his borther, a well-established major leaguer already, was at second.
He began his pro career at 17 with the DSL Rangers 2 where he hit .233 in 45 games as a second baseman. After not playing in organized baseball in 2016, he returned in 2018, this time with the DSL Rangers 1, and hit .232 with no homers and 16 RBIs in 47 games. His statistical lines for those two seasons were in fact virtually identical. His taking part in spring training in Arizona in 2018 was a prelude to moving to a U.S.-based team that season, possibly in low Class A.
In addition to his brother, Rougned has other relatives in baseball: uncle Rouglas Odor is a long-time minor league coach and manager; another uncle, Eddie Zambrano, played in the majors while Eddie's brothers, Roberto Zambrano and Jose Zambrano both played professionally.
