Biographical Information[edit]

Arkansas native Bob Patrick spent just four seasons in professional baseball from 1938 to 1942.

The outfielder made his debut in the Major Leagues on September 20, 1941, appearing in five games with the Detroit Tigers before the season's end. Patrick was back with the Detroit club in 1942, appearing in four games before joining the United States Army, where he served as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. Patrick saw minimal time during his Major League career, appearing in just nine games and 15 at-bats with four base-hits for a career .267 batting average.

The outfielder spent four seasons in the minor leagues (1938-1941) with his best season coming in 1941 with the Buffalo Bisons of the International League. Bob hit at a .322 clip with four home runs in 345 at-bats, for the then-AA league (AAA had not been invented yet, making AA the highest classification in the minors). He had previously led the 1939 Evangeline League with 111 runs while playing for the Alexandria Aces. His four-year minor league sheet shows that Bob appeared in 498 games with 1,833 at-bats and 575 hits for a .314 minor league career batting average.

Patrick did not return to the game after the war, returning to his home in Fort Smith, AR where he died on October 6, 1999. He was buried at Fort Smith National Cemetery.
