Biographical Information[edit]
Bob Filotei was a minor league player who went into scouting.
Filotei signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Reds. He hit .197/.332/.251 with 35 walks in 57 games for the 1990 Billings Mustangs. He fielded .899 as a utility infielder, backing up Keith Gordon at SS, Kevin Riggs at 2B and serving as the third-string 3B. He tied Brian Mercado for 10th in the Pioneer League in walks.
In 1991, Bob batted .216/.315/.253 with 13 steals in 20 tries and 48 walks in 102 games for the Cedar Rapids Reds, while fielding .978 as their main second baseman (his backup, Amador Arias, also became a scout). During 1992, the Pennsylvanian appeared briefly for Cedar Rapids (4 for 32, 2B, 4 BB) and the Charleston Wheelers (4 for 23, 4 BB). Overall, he had hit .203/.315/.244 in 176 games as a pro, with 84 runs, 19 steals in 32 tries and 91 walks, while fielding .946.
Filotei scouted for the Reds from 1993-2002 then moved to the San Diego Padres. He signed Drew Cumberland, David Freese, Brandon Gomes, Wade LeBlanc and Brad Salmon.
