Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Bob Addis was signed by the New York Yankees from Barberton High School when he graduated in 1943. He played for the Wellsville Yankees in the Class D PONY League that year. After being drafted in March 1944, he joined the Marines, and had boot camp in San Diego, California, before being sent to Guam for artillery training. He served in China with the occupation forces. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to baseball, spending the season with Wellsville and the Binghamton Triplets of the Class A Eastern League. In 1947, Addis was with the Augusta Tigers in the Class A South Atlantic League and the Norfolk Tars in the Class B Piedmont League. The 1948 season was with the St. Paul Saints of the Class AAA American Association, and 1949 was with St. Paul and the Montreal Royals of the AAA International League.
In 1950, Bob played with the Milwaukee Brewers of the American Association before being called up and making his debut with the Boston Braves on September 1, 1950. He remained in the major leagues into the 1953 season when he was sent to the Toronto Maple Leafs of the International League. He played in 208 games for the Braves, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates, batting .281/.327/.341. He primarily wore number 16.
Following his playing days, he was the head baseball coach and athletic director at Euclid High School in Euclid, OH, where he passed away at age 91 in 2016.
