Biographical Information[edit]
Starting pitcher Blake Johnson played in the minor leagues from 2004 to 2013 for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Kansas City Royals and Colorado Rockies organizations. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2010.
Drafted by the Dodgers in the 2nd round of the 2004 amateur draft, between Curtis Thigpen and Donny Lucy and ahead of Hunter Pence and Dustin Pedroia, Johnson signed for a $600,000 bonus, with the signing scout being Clarence Johns.
He had a few seasons of note to date, including 2005, when he was 9-4 with a 3.33 ERA in 24 games (17 starts) for the Single-A Columbus Catfish of the Dodgers system and 2007, when he was 9-6 with a 3.28 ERA in 26 games (22 starts) for the High-A Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Royals system. The Dodgers had traded him to the Royals on July 25, 2006, along with Odalis Perez, Julio Pimentel and cash for Elmer Dessens. He had his first 10-win season in 2008 with the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals.
Overall, he was 67-52 with a 4.53 ERA in 274 games (155 starts) in his decade of service. He had 708 strikeouts in 1,010 2/3 innings.
