Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Villanueva played six seasons in the minors.

Villanueva pitched in the Dominican Summer League in 1996-1997. He came stateside with the 1998 GCL Marlins and excelled at 6-2, 1.88 with a WHIP of 1.03. He tied for third in the Gulf Coast League in wins behind Willy Marin and Drew Shields and was third in ERA behind Wes Anderson and Jung Bong. In '99, he returned to the same club and fell to 2-5, 3.86. This time, he tied for 6th in the GCL in defeats. He split 2000 between the Utica Blue Sox (1-3, 7.15, 23 BB in 22 2/3 IP) and Kane County Cougars (1-6, 3.67). Overall, he had a 14-28, 3.95 record in 77 minor league games.

According to Villanueva's LinkedIn page, he began coaching in the St. Louis Cardinals organization in May, 2005 though some of the early years and roles could not be confirmed.

Villanueva was slated to return to the DSL Cardinals Blue in 2020 before the minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
