William V. McCarthy

Biographical Information[edit]
Bill McCarthy was a college baseball coach.
McCarthy, who also went by the initials, W.V., graduated from Lehigh University in 1919. In 1921, he was named New York University's head baseball coach. He coached for 40 seasons, leaving with a record of 476-258-12.
Many future Major Leaguers played under him including Kiddo Davis, Sam Mele, Eddie Yost and Ralph Branca.
In addition to baseball, he played football and ran track in college.
