Biographical Information

Bill McCabe was only in the majors as a backup for three seasons but he got into two World Series. Bill, who was born and died in Chicago, IL, played most of his major league games for the Chicago Cubs.

He is one of six major leaguers (through 2008) with the last name McCabe. Two of the others, Tim McCabe and Dick McCabe, were also in the majors in 1918.

Bill had 45 at-bats for the 1918 Cubs and then scored a run for them as a pinch-runner in Game # 4 of the 1918 World Series. After being with the Cubs in 1919 and part of 1920, he was traded to the 1920 Brooklyn Robins where he was also a pinch-runner in Game # 6 of the 1920 World Series.

After his major league days he played for the Los Angeles Angels, hitting .315 in 1921 and close to .300 in 1922 and 1923.
