Biographical Information[edit]

Scout Charley Barrett stated that he was in Farmington, MO to see the county fair, and there happened to be a ball game as an attraction. Barrett saw pitcher Tim McCabe and signed him that very day. Source: SABR Biography of Charley Barrett.

McCabe was pitching against the semi-pro Farmington, MO team for the Ironsides team. Reportedly, he spent 1914 with the Burlington Pathfinders of the Central Association. This Tim made his big league debut with the St. Louis Browns on August 16, 1915 and pitched 7 times that season, looking good with a 1.30 ERA (although he gave up several unearned runs) and a WHIP of 0.816. He came back for 13 games the following year but was not as effective, and then had only one game in each of the two succeeding years.

He spent much of 1918 with the Salt Lake City Bees, going 11-10, and was with the Rockford Rox for a few games in 1920. A notice in the Madison Journal (Madison Parish, LA), April 26, 1919, stated that the Browns sold him to Louisville in the American Association.
