Biographical Information[edit]

Left-hander Bill Hoffman made his pitching debut on August 13, 1939 with the Philadelphia Phillies. He appeared in three games, pitched six innings, giving up eight hits and nine runs along with a 13.50 ERA but had no decisions. His final game with the Phillies came on August 26, just 13 days after his debut.

The 26-year-old Hoffman reappeared five seasons later in 1944 in the minor leagues with the Trenton Packers of the class B Interstate League. He appeared in three games, pitched 12 innings, giving up 25 base-hits and 17 runs and was the loser of all three games. This finished his pro baseball career.

William Joseph Hoffman died on May 14, 2004 at 86 years of age in Roxborough, PA.

Both Bill and Forrest Thompson were born on March 3, 1918, but Bill made it to the majors in 1939, while Forrest had to wait until nine years later.
